The serial killer known only as the Phoenix continues to roam the streets and a new victim falls prey. For Moira and Detective Keenan Edwards, still on the hunt for the Phoenix, the rules have changed. The killer remains beyond their grasp.

Moira is willing to give into her fierce attraction to Keenan. However, the detective proves to be more reluctant despite a moment of heated passion. Then discovery of a secret Keenan never planned to share creates an unwelcome rift between the new lovers.

Keenan isn’t the only one hiding something. In this continuation of the Memory Collector series, Moira makes a startling disclosure about her past. This revelation will not only test the boundaries of love, but might also prove to be the clue that will finally unravel the mystery of the Phoenix.

**I received a free eARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

If you've read my review of Mind of the Phoenix (The Memory Collector #1), then you must know that I really loved that book :) and I'm very happy that I didn't have to wait too long for the sequel! :D

In Pawn of the Phoenix, Moira and Detective Keenan are still trying to figure out who the Phoenix is and not that much time has passed since the first book. I really appreciated that what happened in Mind of the Phoenix was explained briefly and that the characters were introduced in detail once again, since there were a few names I didn't remember. I guess this means that the book could be read without having read the first one? I'd still recommend reading it before though, it's amazing and you wouldn't want to miss it :)

And if you liked Moira and Keenan together, then you're going to love this! They were getting to know each other better and trust each other more too in the first book, but now the relationship between them is really beautiful. Until now, she's always told herself not to trust anyone, and that's how she has survived. Can't blame the girl, can we? I would've done the same! But now she's with the detective and it's the cutest thing!

Someone's also getting in the way, the good old Mr. Hayes, who was a little bit crazy about Moira. And he makes things more interesting.

There's also some of progress with the case, more victims appear and Moira and the police start to get more involved. The detective also starts to investigate about her past, especially because he doesn't want to believe that Moira was capable of killing someone, even if that person was always torturing and hurting her. I really liked this part since I LOVE getting to know more about what she has been through, her past is heartbreaking, she's so strong! And am I the only one who is very interested in Devin? He was a male concubine from the pleasure house. I hope he's still out there and we get to see him soon! And I definitely want to see more about his past with Moira.

Oh and things start getting a little bit out of control too, people are now sure that the Phoenix must be an empath, so there are riots and they want the houses to be shut down and all empaths dead.

We also find out about Keenan's past. I actually had my suspicions that it was something like that. This is a very important part of the story and just proves how much Moira cares about him. They're precious (his past broke my heart a little bit though, I felt kind of bad for Moira). And I can't get enough of his mind full of gears! I think it's the coolest one we've seen so far, even though Scott's (Moira's former master) was amazing and hers too, it's like there's a little Hogwarts in her head with all those staircases moving.

And I'm almost sure that Moira reads my mind too when I'm reading these books, I mean, she tells me everything I want to know! And I love that we're also told about every single feeling there is, since she can sense that stuff, and I like to be informed, thank you very much :) How helpful it is for us that she always knows what Keenan is feeling.

Finally: that ending! The next book can't come soon enough! I just can't wait to see how things turn out, we know more about the Phoenix now, so I guess it's all about to get more interesting :) But please oh please let there be a happy ending for Moira and the detective. She deserves all the happiness in the world.

Have you read Mind of the Phoenix? What did you think of it?

Thank you for reading! Bye-Bye!
