Doctor Mars (Mindcop Dossiers #1) by T.A. Uner

Title: Doctor Mars (Mindcop Dossiers #1)
Author: T.A. Uner
Genre: Science Fiction
Published: June 2014

My Rating: 4/5

In the early 22nd century, Mars has been fully colonized and terraformed by humans. On this new Earth colony the members of the MCPF (Mars Colonial Police Force) keep the peace. Liberty Rise is a gifted mutant with the power to manipulate time using her "mind-shifting" technique. As a member of the Mindcop division, she must use her skill to solver paranormal crimes.

When a recluse scientist named Dr. Andreas Hitzig threatens the safety of Mars, Liberty and the MCPF must intervene.

A few days ago I was reading my messages on goodreads and had a really nice surprise. An author had contacted me to offer me one of his books to read. He told me what kind of stories he writes and that I could choose any of his books so he could send me a digital copy for free. I got really excited, since I LOVE getting stuff for free (well, who doesn't?). Especially if they’re nice books.

So this is his website: http://leopardkingsaga.com/, I saw his books there and I have to say they really caught my attention. At first I thought I’d go for the first book in The Leopard King Saga, The Leopard Vanguard, since it sounded really good and like something I would enjoy a lot. But then I saw Doctor Mars and wanted to get that one too haha; it was a tough choice but I went for Doctor Mars, since I’ve never read about people living on Mars before! That was pretty cool.

The main character is Liberty Rise, a member of the Mindcop division within the MCPF (Mars Colonial Police Force). She’s a mutant who can control time using a “mind-shifting” technique, so she works solving crimes using her gift. There seem to be a lot of mutants walking around on Mars, since they mention there being some laws and stuff regarding them, which I think is pretty nice.

There’s a murder at the beginning of the book, and Liberty is one of the people working on solving this case. The clues lead to a scientist called Dr. Hitzig, who has some kind of really crazy plan. Now, I’ll admit I’m not a big fan of books about crimes and things like that, but this one had mutants with weird abilities… and they were on Mars… and it all happens in the future so they had all this technology and cool gadgets… So I liked it :)

I have to say I felt really bad for Cal at the end, at first I thought ‘Well, this is a short book, I won’t get enough time to get attached to these people and get my feelings hurt’… Wrong! I mean, we don’t really get to know Cal very well, but we know Liberty and I like her, so I felt bad for her :(

About the writing, I think it was really interesting to read from so many different POVs, it was very well done and I never got lost. And even though it was a very short book I didn’t feel like things were rushed or anything like that, I could totally keep up with the story.

I enjoyed this book a lot, it makes a nice, quick read if you’re looking for a little bit of sci-fi or a crime story :)

Thank you for reading! Bye-Bye!

  6. If you enjoyed "Doctor Mars" (great review!) you should definitely check out "The Leopard Vanguard" - I read/reviewed both of them and even though I'm not a huge fan of the genre itself, I liked TLV in the end! :D

I followed you btw, your blog is awesome! But oh my god, could you explain how you did the "HIDE SPOILER" thingy? That would be great, I'm in desperate need for something like that, haha :)
