Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

I read Cinder a lot time ago and really loved it, so I don't know why I didn't pick this up earlier! No, I know. Too many amazing books to read.

Ugh, the dilemma.

This book made me feel even worse for Cinder, I seriously can't understand how people can treat cyborgs like that, they're still human beings!! I mean, the Lunar thing I can understand (well, a bit, I don't like to judge just like that), even she does, since Lunars aren't exactly the nicest people around. And not just that, but Cinder is all over the news and they're just destroying her and keep saying awful things about her.

I can't wait until everyone finds out the truth about who she really is.

I also enjoyed Scarlet's story a lot, I think I may have enjoyed it more than Cinder's in this book! It was just very interesting and everything she went through with Wolf... I just loved it. Seriously, Scarlet and Wolf are everything!

And I loved reading from all the different POV's too, it lets us see all these opinions and how people are reacting to things in different parts of the world. Because yes, we visit more places in this book than just the Commonwealth. Little Scarlet is from France.

I don't really know how to feel about Thorne though, he was useful and kind of nice, I guess, but too much of a flirt. I usually can't stand guys like that. But seriously, he needs to calm down, he just wants to hit on every girl that ever existed.

And I'm very glad Kai didn't make me mad. I thought that he would be really immature about the whole thing with Cinder at the ball, but, surprisingly, he took things pretty well and didn't behave like a little boy saying that he hated her guts... Even if he imprisoned her and is looking for her, I mean, you know he doesn't exactly want to hurt her (or for Queen Levana to murder her), but he doesn't have many choices, not even when it comes to his own life... I don't know, I'm just saying it could've been a lot worse.

Although he did want to exchange Cinder to get peace for his people and not having to marry the queen, but I don't know, even so, I never got too mad at him, I think we just have to see things from his perspective. And he doesn't care that Cinder's a cyborg, only that she's Lunar, so that's a plus.

And I have to admit that at first I wondered what Scarlet and Cinder had to do with each other, and how their stories were going to come together, but after a while it all falls into place and starts making sense. It was actually pretty good how it all worked out, and I do love finding out more about Cinder's past.

Oh and I'm so glad Iko is back!! I really missed her, she's just great.

But what I enjoyed the most was definitely Scarlet and Wolf. Their story is just so complex, it is so well done and I loved everything about it. They're amazing together.

Something I found really cool about this was that I already liked Cinder since the first book, and now we also have Scarlet and she's just as great! How can you have not just one, but two cool heroines?! That's just fantastic.

Can't wait to see what happens next! :)

Thank you for reading!

  3. It took me a while to warm up to this book in the series! It's actually my favourite book now but in the time I was reading it, it took me a while to appreciate Scarlet's voice as a character. I do now though, and Wolf is just everything to me <3 I also really loved the action and the political side behind it. It's kind of interesting how the discrimination against Lunars despite them basically being human too can relate to issues with racism going on around the world now!

Oh I loved that too! And Wolf's story is amazing, I liked that a lot.
The discrimination part is awful, but sadly it's very close to reality.
