The Eighth Story. Nineteen Years Later.

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

I'm just so happy!!

I am one of those people who grew up with Harry Potter and started to enjoy reading with the series. So, as long as this woman keeps making new Harry Potter stuff possible, I'm just going to accept it without complaints and be thankful.

I've been wanting to read this since it came out, and someone was kind enough to give it to me as a present!! :D God bless them... I usually read in English, and the one they got me was in Spanish, I don't even know when it was the last time I read a book in Spanish, much less a translation. I considered it'd be kind of fun, I mean, I did read most of the Harry Potter books in Spanish, because I was just a child back then, which means reading this in the same language would only feel appropriate, right?

Oh and, honey, I need to start reading more physical books, because my finger just started tapping on words to get the meaning of them, like I was using my Kindle. It took me a time to adjust.

So, now to the actual book...

As soon as I started reading this (and I mean the first paragraph!), I felt like crying. IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL AND EXCITING. Because here I am, so many years later, getting a new story about this world... And it felt like I was reading the series and I was a child again and everything was perfect.

This book is mostly about Harry's younger son, Albus, and Draco's son, Scorpius. Life at school is not easy for these two, Albus has to live under his dad's shadow, being compared to him all the time, while Scorpius is believed to be Voldemort's son, which makes it pretty difficult to meet new people to hang out with.

I loved the fact that these two were such good friends, what with Harry's past with Draco while they were in Hogwarts themselves. Although I have to admit that I liked Scorpius way more, he was a very nice kid. Albus seemed very resentful and immature, it's not difficult to see that most things were in his head, and that he just hated that his dad was the most well-known wizard alive, which put a lot of pressure on him. It's not like he's an only son, James and Lily seemed totally fine. Stop whining, Albus.

Something that made me get even more excited about this book was that Cedric Diggory plays a big role here. My favorite books are The Philosopher's Stone and The Goblet of Fire, I just love the Triwizard Tournament!!

Yeah, I know, Cedric's dead, we all know. But anything is possible in this world, right?

We do go back in time as well, we get to see Cedric again, Snape, and even Dolores Umbridge (ugh). I kept having mini heart attacks every time this happened.

And we also get to see different scenarios of what could've happened, had been things done differently in the past, which is pretty exciting! Oh and things do happen for a reason, man... So shut up, Amos Diggory.

I also enjoyed reading about Rose Granger-Weasley, she's just like her mother.

Little SPOILER here, skip this if you don't want to be spoiled.
And oh my God how awesome is that Cedric got to meet Harry's son and Draco's too! That's cool beyond words...
END OF SPOILER.

Now I need more Harry Potter stories, thank goodness Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is just around the corner! I can't wait for that one to come out :D

Have you read this book? What do you think of the Harry Potter series?

Thank you for reading! ♥

  4. I only skimmed this review because I haven't finished the original series yet and I didn't want to encounter any spoilers. I know the play format really bothered a lot of readers so I am glad it wasn't anything which could hinder your enjoyment of the novel. I'm glad you could fangirl and love this one so much!

    1. I recently picked up the first book from the library to read the whole series again! :D I hope you like it, God knows I was a huge Potterhead when I was a child (and a little bit of that is still left in me :P).
I loved the play format! The only downside to that is that the story was kind of short, but I still liked it :)
