Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is, like the title suggests, a retelling of the classic Pride and Prejudice, but with zombies. It's based on the novel of the same title by Seth-Grahame Smith, which follows the same events we see in the original story, but people have come to learn the art of combat, to protect themselves against the undead.

Wow. Just wow.

I can't believe how different this is from the book and how much I enjoyed it! (You can see the review I wrote for the book here). I think I actually liked the story in this one better, it all just made more sense to me, and it was easier to see the Bennets having to be ladies and warriors at the same time for some reason. And there's so much history behind it!

Also, those zombies... I don't remember them being this smart!! They're intelligent creatures who set plots to feed on people! There are also a few zombies who don't hurt humans and eat pig's brains, so they don't turn into actual zombies.

The fighting scenes were my favorite, they were really well done. I especially enjoyed the one between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. I really liked Lily James as Lizzie, and her sisters were great too, I didn't hate any of them. I didn't hate Lydia!

Lady Catherine de Bourgh is very different from her usual self, even from the Catherine we see in the book this movie is based on. She ends up being an ally! And Lena Headey just made her way cooler (I love her as Cersei Lannister to bits). There are actually a lot of great well-known actors in this.

The one thing I didn't really love about this movie?... Darcy.

Ok, don't get me wrong. I know that actor, he's the one from Maleficent and I love him there, but I just couldn't see him as Darcy, especially because of his voice. Something we always see in all Darcys everywhere is their deep voice. Yes, I may be sounding ridiculous to some people, but the deep voice is important, it is. Darcy's an imposing figure (especially here, being a Colonel and all) and he needs that voice.

I think this is a movie a lot of Pride and Prejudice fans could enjoy, and I would even recommend it to people who don't like Pride and Prejudice, but enjoy a nice action film packed with zombies (and it's very different from the original story, like I mentioned). So much better than I expected.

I hope there's going to be a sequel, especially with that ending!

Have you seen this movie or read the novel?

Thank you for reading! Bye-Bye!

  1. I agree with you about Darcy! There was just something about his voice that didn't quite fit. The movie was great overall, and the quotes were quite entertaining to watch! I hope there's a sequel :)

    1. Yes! To me it sounded like he was in pain the whole time, but he's not supposed to sound like that! He's only supposed to look like he is in pain haha :P

  2. I am glad you were able to enjoy the movie! I haven't read the book yet and that is one of the things I want to do before I start in on the movie myself. I really think the whole idea is hilarious, but that it could be fun I think? I also really liked the casting of the movie so that was another thing that made this one appeal to me. I'm impressed you liked it more than the book and found it easier to follow ^.^

  3. I've never read the book, but I DO really want to see this movie. My sister saw it in theaters and really loved it. She said I would enjoy it too, and I think so. Great review! Thanks so much for sharing.
