Once Upon a Time... Prince Christophe can't die. Or, more precisely, if he dies, so does his country. But that hasn't stopped the King from hosting a ball. And it hasn't stopped Kit's enemies from seeking a quick end between the quadrille and the waltz. The Children of the Wood hold out hope that their Assassin Queen will fulfill the prophecy and end Kit's life. But when Ella vies for the prince's attention, it's not a knife that pierces his heart, or her own. One waltz at a ball. One trip of a slipper. One Prince. And one Assassin. In the world of the Never Lands, Fairy Tales aren't quite like you remember.

Cinderella with a Dark Twist.

This Cinderella is an elf, an assassin, whose mission is to kill Prince Christophe and bring back peace to her people. But when confronted with the prince, she realizes that ending his life is not the right thing to do, or so the Darkness tells her.

I really like reading fairy tale retellings, they just let you enjoy once more a story you're familiar with, but reimagined and with lots of new characters to meet. In this book, we get to know a whole different Cinderella, one who doesn't let people tell her how to do things, and who is not in need of a prince coming to sweep her off her feet.

The prince and Cinderella are not exactly on the same side, but, well, she tried killing him after all. Even so, they start spending a lot of time together and get to know more about each other and their people. We also get a lot of action and fighting, it's very refreshing to see the girl kicking butt and protecting the guy for once.

The only problem I had with this book was that, even though it was beautifully written in the beginning, it started getting a little confusing at times and I had to reread some parts, because I didn't know who was talking. But other than that, it was very enjoyable.

If you like Cinderella and fairy tale retellings, you might want to give this one a try :)

Thank you for reading! Bye-Bye! ♥

  1. I adore fairy tale retellings, although I admit I'm getting tired of all the Cinderella retellings. This one though? It sounds like a REALLY dark twist and dark fairytale retellings are my jam, so I'll add it to my TBR.

  3. I am the kind of reader who is crazy about any kind of retelling at all. I want to devour them all because they are just SO MUCH FUN in my opinion! I love the sound of this Cinderella having attitude and not letting anyone be the boss of her. It's a completely different take. It's just a shame about it getting confusing in some parts. Which is why I am probably not going to picking this one up after all :(

    1. Yes!! Retellings are great! :D I don't really enjoying rereading stuff, so retellings are awesome, since I get to read about the same story but with a few changes :) Yeah, that was a real shame :( but the story is really good, I liked this tough Cinderella.

  5. Oh, Cinderella with a dark twist? I would say that this is not my cup of tea, but I see that she decided not to kill the prince, which means that I will definitely put this on my TBR! It's an interesting twist, though. And yeah, I absolutely LOVE kick-butt heroines! Besides, that cover is just AMAZING.

Thanks for featuring this book, as well as your well-written thoughts!! : )

    1. Yes, and she's definitely into him, but there's not much romance in this though, maybe in the sequel? Books with strong heroines in them are the best! :) Thank you!
