I was very excited to go see this movie, and I am glad to say it didn't disappoint!
Now, if you haven't read the book and intend to read it before seeing the movie... Well, maybe read the others first as well? I'm not sure yet, but I think I might have been spoiled just a bit. I've only read the first book so far, and I just never stopped to think that this might be one movie instead of one for every book, and some things happened that might have been part of the rest of the books, or maybe they changed the story for the movie, I don't know! But I'm almost sure I found out about some of the kids' curiosities I didn't know about... Oh well.
I guess I won't really know for sure until I read the rest of the books.
Putting that aside, I was pleasantly surprised by all the changes made. And I completely understand why Burton felt the need to change Emma's character, it was done very well and having the main character's love interest float around while being pulled with a rope like that was really original, and it made for some very good scenes! It even made some parts of the book better and more understandable, like the one with the ship.
Another thing I enjoyed very much was seeing what the kids were actually like. In my head, they were, well, children. Turns out a lot of them are actually older, which made it easier for me to relate to them! Each one of them really fits the part. The costumes, personalities and curiosities were captured beautifully, even for Millard, the invisible kid.
Oh and don't get me started on Miss Peregrine! Seems like Eva Green is Tim Burton's new muse and I don't have any complaints about that!
And the bad guys were even more bad-ass than I pictured them! They're definitely more powerful and have some abilities they didn't have in the book. Also, am I the only one who kept seeing Slenderman when they appeared in their true forms?
The plot was really great and I was very impressed by the originality of the story. And the many changes from the book made it even more entertaining for me, since there were a lot of things that took me by surprise.
I would really recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy and time travel. Although this being a Tim Burton movie, I don't see that many people wanting to skip it, since he's pretty popular.
And if you like reading the book before seeing the movie, then do yourself a favor and don't just read the first one! I seriously need to read the rest to see if I was spoiled or not.
What do you think of Tim Burton's movies?
Thank you for reading! ♥
I'm glad that you enjoyed the movie Carla! :)

Thank you Miranda! :)
DeleteI have heard that this one strays from the books so maybe you weren't spoiled? I'm going to be seeing the movie tomorrow but I'm only starting the book today so I do expect to be spoiled for some of the first book. But, oh well. I'm glad you could enjoy this book and the characterisation of all the characters! It looks so cool and I always enjoy a good Tim Burton movie ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope so!! D: I really do, since this movie, like you mention, does stray from the books (well, I know it does from the first one at least).
DeleteThat's great! I hope you enjoy it a lot then!! :D I also love Tim Burton movies, they're amazing <3
I enjoyed the movie a lot more than the book! I haven't read the other books yet and I don't know if I will. I'll watch the other movies though. :) Great movie review!
ReplyDeleteYes, the movie was really good! :D I loved the changes.
DeleteThank you! ^-^
Glad to know this is a great film with originality. It's one I'd really like to see once it arrives on DVD, and someday I'd like to read the book. Especially since I've *tired* to make it a rule to read the book first. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, it's really good :)
DeleteHaha I also have that rule, I just hate to read a book if I've already seen the movie :P
